Arabic Calligraphy ~ U.A.E.

Arabic Calligraphy in Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the UAE.

Arabic Calligraphy is a beautiful art. I like the way the intertwined letters flow together drawing the eye into following all the curves and shapes.

I know how to speak and write in Arabic. However, I always have trouble reading this type of calligraphy as I never know where a word starts and where it ends.

This was shot in the beautiful Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the UAE. If you haven’t seen the photo essay I have done about it, please go there fast and admire this architectural wonder.

Quick Tips:

You don’t need to capture a whole building or landscape to show its beauty. Try shooting details instead. Get closer and create a photo essay of the place with all the intriguing elements. It will also help develop your ‘artistic eye’.

  • Wow Dan – this is far and away one of my favorite shots from you recently. I’ve always thought arabic writing is beautiful, and you definitely did it justice here. Colors really pop as well which is a nice touch.

    • Thanks Josh! I agree it’s visually pleasing, but so tough to read (calligraphy, not normal writing).

    • Thanks! It’s taken at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

  • Is it the shahada?

    • No it’s not the Shahada. Probably another surat from the Quran but i have a hard time reading it.

  • This is so beautiful! I love Arabic calligraphy (and I’ll get some tattooed soon!) – I know how to read Arabic but I also find it difficult to figure out what this kind of writing says. And also handwriting! But this is another story.:)
